Is somatosensation necessary to understand and use sensory language? Researchers from the University of Cambridge and the University of California, Berkeley, found that people who lack touch, pain, or temperature sensations can still describe and use metaphors related to these feelings. The study suggests that cognitive processes rather than direct sensory experience are responsible for our ability to communicate about sensations.
