Finished the anniversary #poem for the couple from my last class. Think it turned out pretty solid.

# Home of Two Open Hearts

You asked me if I love you
And I fear that the words that escape my lips will never do my truth justice

How do I tell you that this love is a rainbow view
That it’s like seeing in color for the first time
What was once just a monochromatic hue
Gave way to dianthus lime
Vibrant anemone rouge
And gentian blue

Or that I know you understand the language with which I speak
To a depth, unimaginable
—Intricate, often winding and unique yet never discrete—
Indefatigable
Even when you can’t translate to your mother tongue
I still see you hold the fire of my insides in your hands
All the while, you’re cradling the inner younger you, yet somehow none of our feelings go unsung
In those moments, I won’t lie, I still don’t know this withstands
My whole being screams you’re leaving
But you stay

What I mean is, I feel you here when it would be so much easier to go
That I know there is space grow
That we can heal here
That we can make a home here—if we want to
And I think that’s all we’ve ever wanted—everything we’ve been searching for
A home without limits
A home of two open hearts

So when you ask me if I love you, I say:
