For those of us who like to take photos of birds, there are certain ones who are rather elusive. I've more than one "challenge bird". Today, this is the closest I've come to a #BeltedKingfisher. 'til now they were always afar, flying away, laughing. But I've been watching their behaviour & learning... They have territory & favourite perches. I hunkered behind a couple of trees, & waited on their route. Then heard their laughing call flying _toward me_!! #Esquimalt & #Songhees territories

Finally a day to call my own, I went for a slow wander through forest.There were many #fungi-- perfect for #FungiFriday! The fruiting bodies are ephemeral. But mycorrhizae, hidden beneath the soil, is everywhere. #Esquimalt and #Songhees territory. #Mushtodon

More than a little mystified by why the New York Times decided to illustrate an article about Indigenous people in *Alberta* being upset with the province’s new federal-nullification law, with a photo of a Songhees member, whose traditional lands are here, aka southern Vancouver Island, *BC*. Apparently the Times thinks all Indigenous Canadians are interchangeable. Boo. #yyj #canpoli #indigenous #canada #songhees
