The toy deal that split Sonic 3 in half.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Happy Meal toys were set for 1994 in America, and a game had to be ready with that. To have it ready in time, they cut Sonic 3 short, planning to release the rest as Sonic & Knuckles. This resulted in the use of the unique "lock-on technology" that the S&K cartridge used to make the full Sonic 3 game that was originally supposed to happen.
