🪷 #sorjuanainesdelacruz (born 12 Nov 1651, died 17 April 1695). #SorJuana Inés de la Cruz was a Mexican scholar, poet, scientist, playwright, lesbian and now a saint of #Antinous. Now she even has her own @netflix series: https://antinousstars.blogspot.com/2023/04/saint-sor-juana-ines-de-la-cruz.html 🪷

Portrait of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (Sister Jane Agnes of the Cross), nun, playwright and national poetess of #Mexico. This painting was made in 1750 by Miguel Cabrera, a famous artist of New Spain (Mexico's Spanish colonial name), roughly half a century after the death of #SorJuana , who was also called the "Phoenix of the Americas" and the "Tenth Muse". National Museum of History, Mexico City.

I was thinking, if #SorJuana was alive and writing today, she's be spitting those sick rhymes on the mic.
Looked it up, and I'm happy someone else already had that idea:

Redondillas (4-line, 8 syllable, ABAB rhyme structure) really are rappable.
#JuanaInés is a quite remarkable series, and it really made me want to learn more about #SorJuana and read her works more.
It appears that historians have disliked how it strays from the historical record and speculated where that record is spotty, but I think it's okay to do so.
So #SorJuana exchanged portraits with the vicereine Doña María Luisa.
That's like swiping right, isn't it?
We're really enjoying #JuanaInés. It's speculating a lot where the historical record is spotty but it seems to be sticking close to fact whenever we do have documents about #SorJuana's life.
Anyone got a favourite English #translation of her #poetry? I'm looking for a good translation of "Hombre necios..."

It is #citogenesis! The book that Wikipedia cites just has one line: "She [Sor Juana] was also a student of scientific thought and experiment, and corresponded with English scientist Isaac Newton."
And in its sources, it lists Wikipedia!
Whatever, in my headcanon #SorJuana was a physicist of #Newtonian calibre.

I just watched the first episode of #JuanaInés and then I read on English Wikipedia that #SorJuana actually had correspondence with #Newton.
Whaaaaaat? Why is there no mention of this in the Spanish Wikipedia? That sounds like a big deal! Where are these letters between Newton and Sor Juana?
Let's see if the internet can find them...
