Drought in Mexico threatens the production of agave spirits.

"[Rain] totals across much of the country have been less than 25 percent of normal with large sections having totals less than 10 and 5 percent of normal."

The winter has been very warm, reaching 43.6ºC in February, which means moisture reserves in the soil were depleted also.

Agave farmers tend not to irrigate but rely on rainfall to water their crop.

#Sotol (Dasylirion wheeleri) leaves make wonderful patterns & shadows. I love its hardiness; I'm not worrying about it during our current chilly weather. It clearly doesn't mind some freezing temps! Native here in SE Arizona across New Mexico, into Texas &, of course, south into Sonora. I feel lucky this one was already growing in our backyard & has bulked up nicely.
I find it likes some extra water in June when things are at their driest & hottest. Otherwise carefree. #gardening #photography
