The fish drum or 梆 hō (nagy fahal-gong) has long fascinated me. Its sound, design, and purpose resonate with something deep down.
According to one site: “The big wooden fish called 梆 Hō is used principally in the Sōtō monastery... The inside is hollowed out. It is used to announce the midday meal. 102 followers · 81 posts · Server mastodon.online@ReadingFaithfully_org I went through multiple forms due to proximity with #Tibetan practice centers (#kagyu or #gelugpa), or pulling the threads from one Canon to the other, trying to get into early forms mostly driven by curiosity. I ended up finding in alignment with #SotoZen but I've kept attached to the #Theravada and its #PaliCanon.
#Buddhism is such a wide stream of creative thought, going through multiple phases of reinvention. It is so important to keep its various forms in respect.

I have been studying then practicing #buddhism over the span of 2 decades now. I went through a #TibetanBuddhism phase, a #Theravada phase, and I found my home in #zen and more specifically #sotozen.
I am a #machinelearning geek, so I did stuff like trying to extract #matikas out of the #palicanon to support my #abhidharma study.
I now focus on #koan study / contemplation / investigation / whatever non-word applies here. In particular the #gatelessgate.
