If possible the episode deepened my appreciation of #SteelyDan who featured several legendary Black musicians. Bassist #ChuckRainey plays on classic SD tracks, from Home at Last to Kid Charlemagne & Bad Sneakers--described by #DonaldFagen as a #NewYork song. Love Rainey's playing.

As Jack Pepper notes on The Vinyl Factory site, Donald Byrd's trio of 70s records, Black Byrd, Stepping Into Tomorrow & Places and Spaces, propelled jazz toward a younger, soul-oriented audience. The classic track 'Think Twice' (on Stepping Into Tomorrow) has been sampled repeatedly. Most notably by A Tribe Called Quest (Footprints, People's Instinctive Travels), #JDilla (Welcome 2 Detroit), & #ErykahBadu (Worldwide Underground). #DonaldByrd was a 70s visionary.
