When I have some budget, I want to try to setup #soundcard #modems over cheap #USB interfaces using #soundmodem, try and establish a point-to-point #Wireguard connection to prove it's feasible.

And then add mobile phones in between.

In theory everything necessary is present, but the up-to-date devilish details would be good to have documented in a post less than 20 years old.

@bradbrownjr got it! Had to change the PTT port to "COM3" (my #IC7300) *not* "CAT". On the rig, "USB SEND" *does* need to be set to "RTS", it can't be "OFF".

Now I can transmit the calibration tones from #SoundModem as well as try to send commands from #EasyTerm and have the radio key up.

Have been tinkering with #packet this week, as there is not much activity on VHF at my QTH, I decided to get my desktop and #windows98 machine talking to each other.

Surprisingly, #uz7ho #soundmodem just worked on Windows 98 with no issues, the only thing I couldn't get working was PTT keying over the COM port and I had to use a USB RS232 adapter instead.
