Alabama #secession documents declared: "the election of Mr. Lincoln cannot be regarded otherwise than a solemn declaration...of hostility to the South, her property and her institutions" (which, as we've seen, was precisely slavery).

In other words, the #CivilWar was a rejection of — and retaliation to — *a presidential election with progressive results.*

The red states statistically take more from the fed then they pay in. They are the deadbeat states. The money is up North. It’s the #southerners who will be hurt.

If only #conservative #white #Southerners cared as much about living #Black people as they do about the remains of #CivilWar soldiers who battled over keeping people enslaved. In fact, many of these folks continue to battle—but now, it’s over monuments to #Confederate losers.

Turns out "scallywag" was a derogatory term for post #civilwar #Southerners who helped #black folks gain freedom and prosperity by joining the republicans and supporting the #Freedman's bureau. Sounds like a great title to claim for any proud southerner rejecting the cult of the #lostcause. And a truly noble southern legacy to actually be proud of.

So I live in #tennessee, which is solidly the American #south . It's currently overcast, 78 F, and breezy. I just got home after running some errands, and Ive been noticing something about these people I now find myself living among.

No one, and I mean not a single mother fucker, had their windows rolled down while driving around. I even saw someone hotboxing their SUV with a cigarette and ash in an ashtray in their console.

Do #southerners hate the outdoors? It's the only explanation I have!
