#Southernisms | My great Aunt Letha was a bank teller and received the most schooling in her family. Her much older sister was Mom's Mom. Letha subscribed to LIFE and once left a stack at Granny's.

A few years later, I was thumbing through the issue on Hawaii and Granny asked "What are you reading?" I held it up.

"how-ARE-ya" she said, "I've heard it's nas [nice]—the [mill] Super went there on his honeymoon."

I learned how to properly pronounce the name of the state the next year—in school.

📣 #Southernisms | When a #Southerner says "Bless Your Heart" to someone, they may serve this expression. Don't mistake it for empathy or sympathy; it's actually a passive-aggressive drag of that person. A dis. #IYKYK
