Latest read, Lily Daw and the Three Ladies (1941) from The Collected Stories of Eudora Welty. Simple-minded Lily Daw wants to marry a xylophone player she met at the carnival the night before but three morally upright, civic-minded women want to put a stop to that.
You can smell the magnolia and feel the sun in Welty's southern tales.
Measured, immaculate, sly storytelling.
