Drought continued to shrink, affecting less of the US this week, but the amount of extreme and exceptional (D3 & D4) drought increased with worsening conditions in the Southern Plains and a new area of extreme #drought in #Florida. The East Coast from Pennsylvania to South Carolina was drier, while conditions continued to improve in the West.

In the latest short-term #drought blends, extreme dryness has rapidly intensified in the #Southeast, from #Texas to the #Florida Peninsula. Over the long term, though, the driest conditions are still in the #SouthernPlains, especially around the #Oklahoma Panhandle. Conditions remain relatively dry in the #Northwest too over short and long periods.
