Ah, a letter from #SouthernWater this morning apologising for not monitoring their waste water treatment or reporting compliance properly over the last decade. They've agreed to reduce the standing charge accordingly. But don't panic! That doesn't mean the bills are going down! Far from it, everyone. 9% increase for everybody! Can't be reducing those shareholder pay-outs during a cost-of-living crisis, after all.

My response to DEFRA: I'm concerned about Southern Water's plan for effluent recycling. They have shown a very neglectful attitude when it comes to sewage dumping around the coast which disregards their impact on human health (and the environment). I'm afraid Southern Water, while motivated solely by profit, cannot be trusted to safety perform the task. More attention should be paid to fixing leaks and improving #sewage infrastructure in #Portsmouth. #SouthernWater #StopTheSewage

Southern Water recorded a profit of £0.1 Million (£100K) in 2021. In the same year, its Director Ian McCaulay received over £1 Million in salary and bonuses. The company is domiciled in the Cayman Islands.
#SouthernWater has nothing to do with providing water for homes and businesses, and everything to do with asset stripping and personal gain for the individuals who control it.

10,000's of homes and businesses across Hampshire have been without running water for the last five days. Southern Water has said they're hoping to get it back on by christmas. 
I think I found the problem though, the boss of Southern Water, Ian McAulay, only got paid £1 Million in total including a £500K bonus last year. 
I mean, how's he supposed to get by on that?
