Be rude not to try some local produce from the Talgarth Festival, whilst we're still here. Some salted caramel Welsh Cakes from Fat Bottom Welsh Cakes and some yummy lime curd from Little Black Hen. Yum! #littleblackhen #fatbottomwelshcakes #talgarth #talgarthfestival #southwales

I'm back in the world after a few days largely off-grid at the #GreenMan #festival in #SouthWales. I'm very much not a festival person so don't have much to report, though I am tempted to write a blog post with some brief observations about their "Einstein's Garden" (the festival's #science communication area) on the simultaneously heartening and infuriating fact that #mathematics was in a state of superposition: it existed within many of the things on show, but nevertheless remained unrepresented.

Thanks to the town and people of #talgarth in #southwales for a brilliant week, we've loved the town and the people in it, can't wait to visit again.
After moving my daughter to another school, 1½ mile further, I've taken advantage of the walk home! I've found a few new places to get the scenery. This stroll back to #Tylorstown I learnt something about the world being flat! I've it was, the hike to 1500 feet would've been easy going 😉 #photography #rhonddavalley #southwales

On Saturday most of the #tango world in #southwales will attend the 80th birthday bash of one of the original #welsh #tangoteachers we all adore and cherish him. He's a really gentleman #milonguero.
The eldest #milonguero I know lives and still regularly dances in #London, and is celebrating 94 years of living!

A drawing of the first locomotive to travel the Sirhowy Tramroad in December 1829. It was owned and operated by the Tredegar Iron Company.
‘Britannia’ was a Robert Stephenson 0-6-0 engine built in Newcastle.
The inclined cylinders were located at the footplate end and drove the leading wheels. It provided a model on which TIC Chief Engineer Thomas Ellis was to design a fleet of in-house built tramroad locomotives.

The section of Brecon & Merthyr Railway between Bargoed and 'Pontsticill was one of contrasts.
From a steep sided mining valley it emerged onto the windswept heads of the valleys area and finally into the Brecon Beacons.

Presenting a good range of photographs for such a slim volume. It covers most of Monmouthshire with images stretching back to the early 20th Century.
The annotations are a strength, giving real depth of historical and other infotmation.

No. 2 Baldwin 4-6-2 tender loco on the Brecon Mountain Railway, gauge 1ft 113/4in.
It has led a most colourful life, being built Philadelphia, USA in 1930 for a South African cement company and written off in a driverless runaway accident in 1973.
It was bought as salvage, moved to Wales and lovingly rebuilt between 1993 and 1997 by the BMR.

A book which presents the zenith of South Wales railways through the camera lens.
From pits to castles and more!
There is even an iconic GWR publicity shot from 1930 – which just happens to adorn the front cover!

Photo portrait of one of the most intensive railway networks which ever existed.
It depicts the unparallelled diversity to be found in the traffic, operations and locomotives of South Wales during the steam era.
Fascinating and highly recommended.
