@RHH Along the #NewRiver in #SouthwesternVirginia I've noticed colleges, public broadcasting and other media outlets are still invested in the "other three" big social media outlets, and may have been taken by surprise by the November migration, an awkward time in a semester. Any computer student interest in Mastodon servers yet in #WestVirginia? Student organizations, political or journalistic, might pick up the thread from there. I assume servers are in more urban #ArtsAndTechnology zones.

@paulswann #WestVirginia and #SouthwesternVirginia, where I am, both seem slow to get on Mastodon. I watch for colleges or public broadcasting outlets. But I think they are institutionally invested in other social media, and the PR people or student interns they hired to do it don't have access to Mastodon servers or extra hands to feed "another feed," or to train staff.
The Mastodon migration started in the middle of a semester, bad time for colleges to start anything. Maybe summer? #WV #va

Have you heard of any regional #Mastodon instances being launched in #SouthwesternVirginia? I am hoping someone at the regional colleges will start to show an interest after the winter break... but the colleges' PR/Marketing operations are all heavily involved with other social media.
