"They are outdated developments that have no social licence, ignore current science, and endanger wildlife by clearing coastal habitat."It's death by a thousand cuts for our endangered wildlife."

Zombie DAs are popping up all over our coast.
“It’s death by a thousand cuts for our endangered wildlife, land clearing in NSW has tripled since 2016 and as of last year, the koala was listed as endangered."

"The proponents of the ‘Rise’ development saw fit to bulldoze koala trees on the development site the day before Wild Day, with protestors believing this to demonstrate the developer’s complete disregard of, and disrespect for, the community."

‘Zombie’ housing approvals, some buried for up to 40 years, are rising from the dead in
“Zombie DAs”, as they have been dubbed, have become an issue along the NSW coast, where incoming residents can be surprised to learn nearby patches of coastal had residential approved years ago. As more works begin, many are now calling on the state government to step in and require developments to meet modern environmental and planning standards."
“Our concern is that an old development can clear a site when we know that the science and community expectations has changed – and that legally they’re allowed to do that. A key problem...is that development approvals “exist forever” so long as they completed minor work that qualifies as substantial commencement."

'Zombie DAs' are threatening thousands of hectares of precious coastal bushland.
"This is the third of these zombie developments that have started [in South West Rocks] since COVID and each of them has allowed for a very large degree of clear felling of fairly heavily wooded forests … so people have been rightly concerned about it."
