My story, for what its worth... self sustainability is a fallacy, the only way foward is a small community and even then its tough, grow your own wheat to make bread , mill the grain etc etc?? But thats what it was 100 years ago of course.

We (m and f couple) lived off grid for a decade (own power from solar only, no sewage etc) in order to explore sustainability, it gets you intimate with nature and your food etc

Most people who try are massively dependent on fossil fuels, chainsaws, trucks, tractors etc just witness the US homestead movement. Even with solar, who makes the panels, the batteries etc.

We now live on the edge of a tiny rural village on 2 acres bit just moved here, so this will be a different experience again.

As a way to make use of what is otherwise agricultural waste, USDA researchers have created a new cat litter formulation that reduces odor, microbial growth, and dust production.

And perhaps it can inhibit Toxoplasma infections, but we still need more testing for that.

So, really, why not soybeans?
