There’s a lot of trash on the Moon right now – including nearly 100 bags of human waste. And with more missions, comes more garbage.

My friends and I in undergrad (at the institute of aerospace studies) used to call this the stupidity shield.
This is the vital shield that will ultimately protect the rest of the universe from human stupidity
The Irony. ClearSpace-1 Couldn't Clean up Space Debris Because its Target Already Got hit by Space Debris, Creating Even More Space Debris.
The European Space Agency's ClearSpace-1 satellite was zeroing in on the spent payload adaptor from a 2013 rocket launch. Its task would be to extend arms, grab the chunk of debris, hug it tightly, and then pull it back into the Earth's atmosphere, de-orbiting and removing it from low-Earth orbit. On August 10th, mission controllers detected multiple pieces of space debris near its target - debris that was probably dislodged from it in the recent past. They're now scrutinizing the situation to plan their next step in the mission.
A Satellite Deployed a Drag Sail and Removed Itself from Orbit Five Years Early
Satellites in low Earth orbit will eventually re-enter the Earth's atmosphere and burn up. How long this takes depends on the altitude and the shape of the satellite. A new CubeSat built by a team of students deployed a drag sail made of lightweight Kaplon fabric, dramatically increasing its surface area. This caused the satellite to re-enter the atmosphere five years earlier than it would have taken without the sail, decreasing the time it could contribute to the problem of space debris.
Some #spacejunk just got smacked by more #space #junk, complicating cleanup

Humans. Always barging into a pristine landscape like they own the less and leaving a mess. But at least future space archaeologists will have job security.

The European Space Agency deftly guided one of its satellites toward a fiery re-entry into Earth's atmosphere Friday, demonstrating a new method of post-mission disposal to ensure the spacecraft would not fall into any populated areas or remain in orbit as unpowered #SpaceJunk.

Maintenant, devinez quoi ?

First sat of the night is "RapidEye 2". Launched in 2008, by a company that no longer exists. The company that bought the satellite constellation retired it.
So just old useless tech orbiting Earth.

Perhaps this. The second oldest artificial satellite in space NORAD 00012. Launch date February 17, 1959.
I have pictures of it in the archive here:

The oldest object still in orbit is ID 00005.
That sat has been circling Earth, needlessly, since 1959! #SpaceJunk #RocketBody
