#OTD Adele Haines Austin, #Canadian #Garden #Writer, is born.

She was raised w/ stunning #Gardens on property that is now the #Spadina #Museum in #Toronto.

She wrote The Canadian Garden Book (1913) using the pen name Dorothy Perkins - a nod to a popular hybrid #Rose.

Adele wasn't stuffy & wanted everyone to garden.
She wrote,

"Relax!
Most of you live in a whirl.
Your threadbare, overstrained nerves are crying out for relaxation.
Help create a Canadian garden picture!"

TBT: Daniel at Kom Jug Yuen, 2005 11 06, 371 #Spadina Avenue, #Toronto #Ontario #Canada. KJY had been around for generations; grubby, noisy, busy, food excellent & cheap. Handwritten menus on dayglo paper. Working-class food, it didn't weather the gentrification of Spadina well. Someday I hope someone writes a history.
