Mail is getting lost like crazy. Time to abandon ship.

The #33mail #email forwarding provider review:

1) they can only be reached via Twitter & their Gmail address.

2) there is no physical address anywhere on the site, not even in the privacy policy or legal terms.

3) the ToS says: “You may not use 33Mail to break the law. We will cooperate fully with requests from law enforcement agencies as part of any legitimate investigation of a crime.” But they do not say what country of jurisdiction they are in!

4) the privacy policy says if you have a privacy complaint, “you may contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.” Who’s that? Which country?

Yikes.

Things like jurisdiction and corp registered office is basic info to have in the fine print. I can only guess they are in Ireland because their sister site simply writes “Dublin, Ireland.” in the corner of the screen. Does #Ireland not require online services to disclose their corp ID info?

And isn’t Ireland under the #GDPR, which would require them to be reachable by mail?

On the upside, it’s useful that they at least notify users upon login if there have been problems with the forwarding, unlike #Spamgourmet which gives no notice or info.

Is there a #dogfood issue w.r.t point 1? IMO, they should provide two email addresses: one to reach them on their own mail server, and one on a 3rd party server in case there are issues.

I don't like that https://duckduckgo.com/email requires the plugin (or #DDG mobile browser) for several use cases and it doesn't have the usage dashboard that #spamgourmet has or let you choose a descriptive name for "private" email addresses or the number of messages it will accept, but it is #gratis, does filter trackers and I think I will be using it more in the future.

@LunaFoxgirlVT the fact that Unicode may use multiple bytes is also the cause of a bug report on Mastodon. I auto generate long, high entropy passwords with #keepassxc and Mastodon supposedly accepts up to 72... but that's bytes, not characters.

I suspect that's why my original https://mastodon.technology account was created, but inaccessible. Either that or it didn't like my #spamgourmet <https://www.spamgourmet.com> email (some sites block those)

@forteller @dennix I’ve been using #SpamGourmet for decades. I can confirm that SG is unreliable. Many times I’ve seen the forward count advance but the msg never came. Since there are like 3 or so blind points of failure, it’s really hard to know where it failed in your case.

@peterbabic I can't say these are reliable but these are some forwarding providers that /seem/ reliable enough for things like bank statement notices, forums, or shopping/webshop accounts → erine.email, 33mail.com, anonaddy.com, simplelogin.eu, burnermail.io. Certainly i've found #spamgourmet.com particularly unreliable.

Cool of #mail2tor to publish a list of sites that block them, so #email users know whether or not their msg will get through: http://mail2tor.com/trouble.txt Would be nice if #spamgourmet would do that.

#Spamgourmet only loses my email if it's an important msg. Otherwise, no issues. WTF. SG's accounting page shows that a msg was forwarded, yet the msg never makes it to the inbox.

98% des mails envoyé à mes adresses SpamGourmet sont du spam.

J'ose pas imaginer si je n'avais pas eu ce service.
