I wrote them a pissed-off mail once and told them to stop insulting my intellect and wasting my time, cuz if it wasn't obvious they got paid for that shit I wpuld've pulled everything I legally can to 'burn' their entire ASN, IP allocations and domains as #spammers...

I'm more pissed off by #RogueISP|s that refuse to react to duely-made and legitimate #abuse reports.

For example, #GoDaddy literally harbours most of the #Spammers I've to deal with since they don't even bother to react to #AbuseReports at all and instead sent automated replies from a #NoReply adress telling that they won't do jack shite - even if one goes through their arcane #ticketing system to refile as demanded.

Bots and spam is a problem in social media sites along with email. It is one thing to 'limit' bots scraping data and posting, but how about actioning the reports when we identify _obvious_ spam accounts. Identified a large number and the basics behind each account is almost 100% the same. How hard is it to write a SPUFI to identify accounts with what I noted?

There's an email account I got from a regional ISP back in 1999 that I still use. This 20th-century email address STILL gets #spam directed to the woman (by first and last name, as in "Dear Deeza Nutso, we are trying to reach you about your auto war4anty") who had it before I did.

Which only goes to show you, we have #email #spammers out there who are circulating and using spam-target lists that are very damned near a quarter-century old.

The fact that #GoDaddy requires people, to do added labour beyond senting an eMail to abuse@godaddy.com is the reason why #Spammers love their services...

How is it even legal to sent eMails with falisied MX records, making replies impossible.

And yes, if I wasn't keen on staying with a clean record AND remain employable, I'd not ask politely but yeet the spammers offline.

Of the last 20 accounts to follow me on Insta, I have only followed 4 back.

That leaves 16 accounts:
- 2 are crypto accounts
- at least 1 is using someone else’s photos
- 9 have fewer than half a dozen posts
- most are private so I have to follow to see their posts
- of the ones I can see, many have posts no older that a week prior to them following me

It’s so frustrating trying to weed out the legit accounts from the piles of spammers and scammers.

This is why Masto is better than pretty much every other social media.

@FinchHaven @thisismissem Simple “friction” has been very useful against email #spammers without impacting normal email. Example: forcing SMTP clients to wait for a full banner and to follow command pipelining rules. Put the friction in the paths normal users only follow rarely, once, or never, but which spammers try to optimize for heavy travel.

It’s definitely just one layer of #DefenseInDepth but it is not nothing and can be almost free.

Seriously, #Spammers should be legally barred from accessing the #Internet and be forced to work the amount of personnel hours they wasted with their Spam...
