"She likes long walks on the beach..." A couple of North Carolina's wild Spanish mustangs, locally known as banker ponies, walk along the beach on the northern Outer Banks near Carova. A black stallion is followed by a young sorrel mare with flaxen mane.

It was spring on the coastal marshes of Carrot Island in North Carolina. This mustang stallion catches the scent of a mare he had been following all morning. The dorsal stripes are a sign of their Spanish Mustang heritage.
