After I made those additions, I did some cutting down and a darling massacre to get Chapter 35's HTML file under 45KB and made some belated continuity corrections. Now I *can* declare Chapter 35 complete. It took me a while, but it was a complete mess when I started on it.

Now I've started on the mess that was Chapter 36. Some scenes are now in Chapter 37 and the remaining scenes have an order.

The other story idea I woke up with is what happens next in Chapter 35: Sia's reunion with her "Evil Stepmother" Drusilla (who in another fairytale motif is also the Wicked Witch of the West to Sia's Dorothy). Sia's been working to make Drusilla love her more truly than any of Dru's actual daughters (she even tells Desiree, who hates her mother, "We need her to love us"). The tight hug and delirious kisses mean it's working beautifully so far.

#Spanner #AmEditing update: I woke up extra early this morning with, you guessed it, story ideas, this time for Spanner In The Works chapter 35, which I thought I'd already finished. The first had perky reporter Amanda's daughter and Sia's stepdaughter Petronella (Pet for short) beg Sia to save Amanda, who right now is a mind slave, in effect giving her *another* mission. Sia promised her she will. Now she has to. (In Chapter 42 she does.)

Okay, @vinylrecords, I'm going to tell you what I did while I did some intensive #AmEditing on my novel #Spanner In The Works. I played all 3 of what I consider the best albums by #Rush back-to-back. First Permanent Waves (which I just got a new copy of at my local Saturday flea market), then Moving Pictures, then Signals, and then Permanent Waves *again*. I shocked myself at how much I *missed* that record.

I look at Spanner In The Works chapter 36 as a whole and realize I'm going to have to cut a lot of material. I'll surely move some of it to Chapter 37. But I'll probably go back to edit Chapter 23 first. Meanwhile I've decided to resist the temptation to add yet another chapter.

Unfortunately I feel the need for another nap...

"'Oh, how I long to make you my slave,' Severina said in a delirious rapture to the young Factor-positive she'd stripped nude and tied up on the hotel room bed. Sia gasped with terror at the sound of the word 'slave' and redoubled her futile effort to escape her bonds."

The scene came to me virtually whole. Pepé Le Pew and the cat as vampire erotica, remember. Maybe even a PTSD flashback. Of course I spent too much time lovingly editing it. Flashback now finished.

#Spanner #AmEditing update: Sure enough, my muse came through. I woke up from my nap with a flashback scene built around Severina's line "Oh, how I long to make you my slave." She's intensely *high* from the effect Factor-positive blood has on vampires when they drink it. Sia herself is far from pleased -- she's both terrified and enraged -- and she's determined to escape. At this point Severina's still sacrificing Jihadis ("evil men of Allah") to Satan for Boris.

Finally, I made some fine edits to "No Love Lost". The longest section of #Spanner In The Works chapter 37 is now finished and Sia's twisted relationships with Severina and Boris are fully established.

This is convenient because it coincides with my #EarlyBirdMode today giving out so I'm almost too tired to think. My first #AmEditing session of #2023 is now complete and I'm ready for my muse to give me more uneasy dreams.

Back to Spanner In The Works chapter 37. Specifically, that section "No Love Lost". The "flash flashbacks" are about the violent collapse of Sia and gangster king Boris' torrid love affair previously told in the Chapter 2 flashbacks. They turned out to be easier to write than I thought. I just had to put a little thought into them. Their relationship's violent implosion revolves around Boris' terror of being dominated and Sia's of being enslaved.

A little detour involving influences.

I just found @bruces here in the Fediverse. Along with @GreatDismal and @JohnShirley2023 he's one of the pioneer #cyberpunk authors who imprinted me in the late 1980s and early '90s. Bruce Sterling's strongest influence on me is what I like to call the "moral floating world" effect he creates. I'm too much the moralist to perfectly replicate it but you can easily see its heavy influence on my prose style.

I've got the perfect CSS style to use for those flashbacks. #AmWriting them now.
