is a social movement of grow-your-own food gardeners, small-scale to larger-scale farmers that refer to so as to grow sustainably. fao.org/home/en/

That begs the question, why isn't agroecology the most common system? The same reason why logging companies don't refer to the science of to sustain woodlands. Tree plantations are a short-term, get-rich-quick, industrial method that degrades ecosystems.

@joewynne @ApproachingSteed Oh noooooooo, i've done it again. Pls IGNORE my earlier post. I somehow muddled myself about which of several active threads i was responding to. How damn embarrassing! Around the same time i was posting in a & thread, & thought i was still in it, not the delightful "Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog" one... d'oh. 🤦‍♀️

So, wrt , again i'm no expert for sure, but i am a hopelessly silly fan for decades, & somehow lots of the memes & quotes & scenes have penetrated my noggin. 🤷‍♀️

Now, i imagine i've just mis-posted this reply into some "Origami In Zero Gravity" thread, somewhere somehow... 🙄

Have you heard of the one where eight billion people could choose to live in a peaceful, ecologically sustainable, and generally healthy & happy civilization, but, due to how some people are at the moment, many of those people didn't even think such a future was possible?

I'm no expert on Canadian agriculture sector, but I'd expect it to have a similar setup as Germany's aka a few big players controlling vast patches of farmland and a ton of small farmer struggling along with small farms.

Usually it's the big agricultural enterprises which have the pull since they hold the money. Given such big players tend to compete globally, they'll exploit the soil, labor, nature, and everything else to maximize profits. So these guys will definitely push back against any extra cost they would need to pass down to their own produce prices. Which is also one of the reasons why the article linked by @breadandcircuses demands a global carbon tax (to avoid "market inequality" between the countries adopting a carbon tax and those not doing so).

The smaller farmers on the other hand are often being used as useful idiots. Farmers organize themselves in unions, and those unions are usually chairmanned by the big agricultural enterprises or their puppets, who usually send people into the local parliaments too. So the board tells the small farmers, it's all the fault of the ebil government for imposing such an ebil tax. And since the small farmers trust their cohorts, they'll adopt that narrative. They'll start protrest, and alongside the moles in the parliament, they'll cause governments to make such exemptions.

Even though the small farmers could actually benefit from such a tax since they could switch to nature-friendly cultivation and still remain competitive in comparison to big farmers who would be heavily bogged down by a carbon tax.

I won't go on a tangent about the whole "expanding your business is the only way you can count yourself successful" hoax here. It'd require another essay and I tend to be a bit too wordy anyway...(maybe I should just set up a blog lol).

But you're completely right. This whole fossil-subsidizing nonsense disregards nature and the planet as a whole. Actually, it also disregards humans and their health since agriculture is a key food provider for us, and if we don't get it to produce healthy, good food in a nature-friendly way, we'll be screwed soon anyway ->

Is honesty, generally, the best policy? Well, I've decided to be 'frank' - even if that honesty will make sociopaths angry and lie so as to slander my honest approach. It's what they habitually do anyway.

Morons behave comparably immoral, plus when their stupid behaviors are challenged, morons get offended and angry. Anger is the moron's way of trying to silence those that criticize them.

Morons also generally perceive what's right or wrong, or what's "normal" from their social in-groups. In other words, morons have an "ape see ape do psychology". For example, if a Morons thoughtless & ecologically damaging behaviors are criticized, a Moron will often respond by expressing that many other people do what the Moron is doing, therefore, in the Morons mind, this is proof that what they're doing, " can't be that bad".

By definition, Morons are comparably thoughtless & deluded. It's what they don't understand (e.g., ecology) & care about that makes them a danger to themselves, others & the environment in general.

There are many variants of Morons. For example, gullible Morons follow & support Morons that lie to them. A topical example of a first-class Moron is Rishi Sunak - a British politician who has served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since October 2022. Sunak is a rich class of moron. A businessman Moron displays many of the typically biased traits of "business as usual" - such as greenwashing the Morons that believe in him. So, in this context, Sunak can be grouped with Trump and his kind of successful business-oriented Moron.

Sunak parrot repeats the Fossil fuel industries bullshit. For instance, in the context of anthropogenic climate change, Sunak can be observed repeating the Fossil Fuel industries mantra of "Carbon Capture, Carbon Capture, Carbon Capture" & then Sunaks Moron followers will also then be parrot repeating the "Carbon Capture" mantra. Similar to how the UK working class was generally not saying "Brexit" until the sociopolitical business class started saying the word ("monkey hear monkey say")

To reiterate, Morons are "copycats", (More accurately, apes see, apes do. As humans are apes, not monkeys). "Carbon Capture" is the ecologically unsustainable & comparably expensive technology that the Fossil fuel industries have been promoting - as their answer to mitigating Climate Change. Generally, the business class only promotes an industrial "solution" to mitigate climate change. The consumerism neoliberal or right-wing agenda (money and power being the common dominator). For example, home solar panels and heat pumps will mean the fossil fuel industries, the energy companies, would lose money, so, they greenwash the public instead.

Generally, the Fossil fuel industries promote "Carbon Capture" so as to try & maintain their ecologically wrecking business practices for as long as they can get away with it (for the Morons, it's about sustaining their social status, not sustaining ecology). In the context of the business class Moron, it's often what they avoid talking about that reveals their underlying agendas. For example, you won't hear Sunak challenge the Fossil fuel industry's long history of corruption. Sunak didn't get rich by criticizing the business-class Morons. Or rather, he won't criticize himself, he won't criticize corrupt capitalism that is generally a protect the rich, protection racket. He will and does smile on Camera and lie. Or at least, intentionally avoid the facts that don't promote his political career and those industries that make his career possible.

"Can We Still Limit Global Warming to 1.5°C? Here’s What the Latest Science Says" blog.ucsusa.org/kristy-dahl/ca

So, there are many variants of Moron. Some Morons can be well-intended but, for example, are greenwashed. Well, all Morons believe in their own agendas, and, believing they're well intended, is the Moron norm. Even when those "well intentions" have caused massive amounts of harm to nature. The Morons don't perceive that the harm is their fault.

The rich class of Morons has its own sub-class of "working class" Moron that follows the elite Morons. The "working class" (their words not specifically mine) Morons religiously read the rich-class Moron's Newspapers. Village idiot Morons can be observed moto-cross (motorbikes) riding in England's "natural parks" that are already severely ecologically damaged, sheep-wrecked, "natural" habitats. The village idiot Moron feels their implicit ecologically harmful behaviors are exciting. Village Idiot Morons should be approached with caution - they do get aggressive if their stupid, but average ("normal"), behaviors are challenged.

Some Morons can be sociopaths that think nothing of deceiving the public so as to sustain their wealth. For example, the 'dieselgate' scandal was orchestrated by the business class Moron (though working-class Morons were also involved) phys.org/news/2018-06-vw-diese

Whilst Morons have been trying to get rich by selling polluting fuels for as long as there have been Morons, Society did at least try to reduce some of the air pollutants by regulating how much toxic waste a combustion engine emits (and Morons are obsessed with Cars). Unfortunately, the Morons have generally failed to mitigate air pollution, because, for one example, the Morons promoted installing "Eco Stoves" in the UK, which emit more air pollution than diesel trucks. Whoops! Morons do make many simple mistakes. But, to reiterate, the business class Moron "mistakes" are intentional deception. For example, Sunak's Conservative party plans to open a Coal mine in England. Who backs the Conservative party? Industries.

"UK: Urban wood burning soars, with 18,000 complaints but only 3 fines" linkedin.com/pulse/uk-urban-wo

So, this is another example of business-class Morons selling polluting technologies to working-class Morons (that really don't understand any better - they're Morons after all)

The phrase "woodsmoke is pollution" is not understood by the Moron. dsawsp.org/

So, no surprise, Moron's "green" ideas & policies simply don't add up to real progress. Morons don't learn from their mistakes - Morons believe their faults are normal. Because, in a world of fools, Morons are normally distributed (average behaviors).

What can we do to prevent the 'Morons as usual' agenda from causing more of the unfolding ecological crisis? How do we prevent the Morons from causing (more of) the 6th mass extinction?

We can change - change the general sociopolitical & economic atmosphere. For example, listen to the sincere people that are really motivated to sustain ecology - not the business as usual and lifestyle as usual Morons.

How do we prevent the Morons from casing the 6th mass extinction?

We can change - change the general sociopolitical & economic atmosphere. For example, listen to the sincere people that are really motivated to sustain ecology - not the business as usual and lifestyle as usual Morons.

"A wake-up call’: total weight of wild mammals less than 10% of humanity’s - From elephants to tigers, study reveals scale of damage to wildlife caused by transformation of wildernesses and human activity"

"The total weight of Earth’s wild land mammals – from elephants to bisons and from deer to tigers – is now less than 10% of the combined tonnage of men, women and children living on the planet.

A study by scientists at Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science, published this month, concludes that wild land mammals alive today have a total mass of 22m tonnes. By comparison, humanity now weighs in at a total of around 390m tonnes.

At the same time, the species we have domesticated, such as sheep and cattle, in addition to other hangers-on such as urban rodents, add a further 630m tonnes to the total mass of creatures that are now competing with wild mammals for Earth’s resources. The biomass of pigs alone is nearly double that of all wild land mammals."

"‘Phenomenal loophole’ in quotas could lead to massive "

(Guardian Exclusive) "Drastically weakened rules on how vessels document their catches of species could endanger the , confidential papers reveal

"A push by EU fishing nations including and to weaken how fish catches are reported could see massive overfishing of endangered species and even “call into question” the whole point of setting quotas, according to confidential EU documents seen by the Guardian.

Europe’s most commonly fished species – which include mackerel, tuna, Atlantic herring and sprat – could be threatened under the latest proposal, which would apply to all vessels in EU waters.

At issue is how fish catches are logged to ensure that vessels are not overfishing. Bloc rules currently allow a 10% margin of tolerance between the declared catch for each fish species in a vessel’s logbook and the quantity they report after landing. But fishing nations want to expand a loophole applied to the in 2016 that widens the scope of the 10% margin to vessels’ total catches.

Such a “phenomenal loophole” removes any penalty for vessels that submit completely inaccurate estimates for vulnerable fish species, according to one of the European Commission papers.

"Sir David Attenborough has warned that “nature is in crisis” as he urged people to unite behind action to save it.

The natural historian, who has presented programmes including Planet Earth and The Blue Planet, spoke out as the charities RSPB Scotland and WWF Scotland launched a joint initiative aimed at halting the destruction of nature across the UK.
...
“The truth is, every one of us, no matter who we are or where we live, can and must play a part in restoring nature,” he said. “It’s easy to feel overwhelmed or powerless by the scale of the issues facing our planet, but we have the solutions.
...
The campaign highlights rapid declines in native wild species, with figures showing that in Scotland almost half (49%) of bird species have declined in numbers since 1994, and one in nine species are now threatened with extinction."

A pretty or shity picture?

To put it in blunt (honest) & evidence based terms - the photo shows the ecological effects of a culture that does not know how to care for it's environment.

Generally, what we see in the photo is a landscape that's mismanaged for money. The sign's are all there to see. For example, tiny fragments of tree's that are too pathetic (species poor) to be called woodlands. Large expanses of land that looks like someone has gone over it with a friggin lawnmower (over grazed by sheep).

Historically, this landscape as been almost completely deforested. This landscape is a 'shadow' of what it used to be. It can be restored - BUT, the culture is stuck in behavioural psychological 'ruts'.

The Lake District National "park", Cumbria, UK, is "nature" "porn" for ignorance tourists to look at the views, but not be aware what's missing (from their perspective).

The photo was taken in The Lake District National Park,

For all the talk about mitigating change (ecological degradation in general), many cultures are doing very little to improve the ecology (e.g., biodiversity) of the environments - that human action has degraded.

The stands of conifer trees in the photo are biodiverse poor tree plantations. The majority of the landscapes in England's Lake District is sheep 'wrecked' (over grazed) land.

"They" are doing very little here to improve the ecology of the landscape.

In , for at least 100 years, artisanal human fishers and wild have fished together for the mutual benefit of both species. Now, human-caused environmental destruction is threatening this rare example of between homo sapiens and a wild species. (Rare because nearly all interactions humans have with other species are destructive).

(unfortunately the full article is behind a paywall, but the abstract and five short videos of these interactions are available)
