Time for a list of runners and riders among potential purchasers. Several corporate publishers have been mentioned - the #DailyMail group. #newsCorporation , #Reach and #springer - also two wealthy men in #UK -Paul Marshall and Jim Radcliffe. Other than #springer the corporates would face #competition and #plurality issues - although the #murdochs might get round them by bidding for the #spectator on a stand alone basis.

What broke the New York Times?

An in-house report, ‘Innovation’, stated that a journalist’s job is no longer ended with choosing, reporting, and publishing the news. To compensate for the ‘steady decline’ in advertising revenue due to digitization, ‘the wall dividing the newsroom and business side’ had to come down.
The Times should be ‘encouraging reporters and editors to promote their stories’.

Something I had written (inspired by Umberto Eco) more than 15 years ago about the absurdity of #spectator #sports, and its political consequences. Seeing so many #desis going bonkers over #Argentina, the emotional-political energy they invest in #football teams, reminded me of this piece.
(Its a bit too polemical for my liking today, but then it was written at a time when I really thought what we write could change the world for the better!)

So basically what John Keiger is saying is, “Remainers are not talking about a €600 million scandal that affects 700 million people, but keep crying about £100 billion that affects roughly 67 million people.”

In other words, the EU scandal affects over 700 million people in the EU which is less than a euro per person. In contrast Brexit costs and loss of trading and Tory scandals cost us roughly £1500 per person in the UK.
