South Scrimshaw is a free visual novel about weird whales, and it is heart-wrenching and gorgeously executed sci-fi storytelling.

Without magic, how can dragons breath fire?

Dragons have evolved a specialized fermentation chamber off the large intestine filled with methane producing bacteria. It is connected to a system of pterosaur-like air sacks by muscular valves that collect and lightly compress the gas. When a dragon breathes fire they open a flap in their throat that separates the inflammatory and respiratory systems. They expel the methane through the mouth, then ignite it with an electrical organ at the tip of the snout.

This ability has contributed to dragon's terrifying reputation. Although the rarely use their fire breath outside of display and cooking, it is still very dangerous, and these magnificent, intelligent creatures must be treated with the utmost respect.

QMNH 0034 – The Nopo

One would think that since the Nopo abandoned the ability to fly and swim, it would probably become quite adept at traversing the island’s rugged terrain. One would be mistaken. The Nopo is a notoriously clumsy animal and has been witnessed tumbling off of sheer sea cliffs several times.

Throwback to a project I did for a class as an undergrad at a junior . I wanted to theorize what life could evolve on and I as fueled by a love of and and other projects this was the result.

It's all very old, so be gentle. Some of these ideas worked their way into some of my more recent work: hpkomics.com/secret/europa/
