The Crossroads of Guns and Cars

Guns are a problem and they need to be addressed. They aren't the only or even the biggest problem though.

I know one adult who was killed with a gun. I know three children who were all killed separately by cars.

Guns and cars have a lot in common. They are both extremely unsafe by design and have powerful corporations protecting themselves from liability for their dangerous products.

Gun and car deaths are never the fault of the guns, the cars, or their manufacturers.

They both kill tens of thousands of people in the USA every year.

Laws could be made to make guns and cars safer but the manufacturers use their money to prevent it.

A simple software update and a $40 GPS could restrict cars from speeding.

Making all guns single shot bolt action rifles so mass shooters have to reload after each shot would make guns safer.

Wow, it will be so much nicer to be crushed by an electric car. Clean air in my lungs while my ribcage is crushed will be so awesome. Gas is a major problem but cars take up too much space, they go too fast, and electric cars still cover the world in asphalt. Every car allowed to be on the road needs a mandatory GPS regulated speed restrictor.
Electric cars are still cars.

We could also just make car manufacturers use the computers that already control the engine and a $40 GPS to control the speed of cars. Make speed limiters mandatory on all cars. Recording an asshole going 70mph in a 30mph zone won't keep them from killing anyone.
If they can do it for e-bikes and scooters they can do it for cars.

Speed limit signs aren't enough. We need GPS Geofenced speed limiters on all cars. A GPS can be found in smartphones that cost under $50. Cars already have computers that control the engine. There is no excuse for allowing people to drive without restricting their speed.

Geofenced Speed Limiters mandatory on all cars are a good way to end this stupidity too.

I don't care how hard the idiot presses the gas, the car GPS detected a construction zone so the car is maxed out at 40MPH highway and 10MPh on city streets under construction. All city surface streets 20mph. Wanna drive faster? Don't go through town.

What would also help is if the state put this person and others who kill with cars in prison for at least 20 years for manslaughter.
But unless the person was drunk they probably will get away with it.

Obviously the bicycle hangar should have been wearing a helmet.
Instead of victim blaming, maybe these politicians should pass laws to put GPS geofenced speed limiters on cars and ban all entertainment devices from cars. Many places have laws against bicyclists and pedestrians wearing earphones because it is obviously Bob Marley putting us in danger and not the 3 ton cars.

After living abroad for 5 years, I returned to my #rural #American #Hometown. I rode as a passenger in a #car with my uncle and my brother. It was early morning we were on our way to #work. It was a dirt road with forest on both sides and occasional corn fields. A #opossum was on it's way home from a night of hunting and scavenging. My uncle said to my brother "kill that opossum." To which my brother responded by swerving the car to the edge of the road and crushing the opossum under his tires. I had grown up around these people and never realized just how ignorant and cruel they were until that moment. They kill animals for no reason at all and they do it on purpose with their #cars. Unfortunately, people like them are not rare in rural America. They do it to humans too out there and in urban and suburban areas. Cars should be banned or at least be fitted with GPS Speed Limiters to keep them at a safe speed of 20mph or less in most places that are accessible to pedestrians, bicyclists and animals. Killing an animal or a human with a car shouldn't be treated any differently than if a baseball bat or a gun had been used.
