I've been tinkering with how to make good-looking trees for game environments without #speedtree for over a year, and i've recently settled on a workflow that uses a slightly modified version of The Grove and some #geometrynodes
The modifications add additional data layers to Grove trees and the Geometry Nodes both perform scattering and distribution operations, and add stylized ramp shading, coloring and data layer output.
