Glenfarclas was good fun, and beautiful Speyside whisky. Unique in they remain family owned, a rarer and rarer sight three days.

Can recommend. I overall prefer whisky that hits a little harder, but can see why so many have recommended this before! Will definitely have again in the future.

Its origins date back to a Z-plan defensive tower house that was built here, probably in 1546, and it's been home to one family ever since. Glen Keith Distillery Edition, NAS, CF, e150a colour

Nice buttery, caramel on the nose with wee hints of estery pear drops and some sweet honey. A nice rounded mouthful with a slight malty biscuity taste. Not that complex but a lovely easy sipper and well worth the twenty or so quid you pay for it!

It's been a lovely Spring like day today in #Edinburgh, sadly it's turned a wee bit dreich and miserable, more akin to Autumn. So, blinds tightly shut, heating on and settling back to Friday night #ScottishChampionship #Football - Inverness CT v Partick Thistle - important for The Jags who are chasing 3rd spot.

After my sojourn to the Bluegrass State last night, it's closer to home this evening. I'm feeling light and fruity so it's off to #Speyside.

Infrequent Flyers Glen Elgin 11 y/o 51.3% abv, NC, NCF

Buttery vanilla, sweet biscuity wafts - iced cinnamon buns! A real alcoholic smack in the chops and initial notes of sweet vanilla fudginess developing into zesty lemon cake and a hint of banana. Oily mouthful some woodiness, toasted nuts and caramel. The gutsy abv delivers a beautiful alcoholic warmth completing the finish. A couple of drops of water smooths it out and brings out all the aromas and flavours.

Earlier today a neighbour, not a #whisky drinker, knocked on my door and handed me this bottle. I have lovely neighbours!

Balvenie Double Wood, 12y/0, 40% abv, CF, e150a colour.

Sweet light wafts of orchard fruit, red berries and cherries with some vanilla and chocolate. Spicy, woody mouthful some dried fruit more cherries, cinnamon and nutmeg spice with hints of honey. Dry oaky finish and a wee touch of bitterness at the end.

Matured for most of its time in refill American oak casks and finished for nine months in first fill European oak Oloroso sherry butts.

Not a showstopper but a nice easy sipper.

Independent bottlers "Infrequent Flyers", with just 99 bottles from an ex-bourbon hogshead. Bottled in Grangemouth, Scotland.

Glen Elgin 11 y/o, 51.3% abv, NC, NCF.

Granny Smith apple skin and sweet vanilla biscuity wafts - like opening a tin of assorted biscuits, custard creams and those wee iced party rings and maybe a wee bit of hay. A real whack of alcohol and initial notes of sweet vanilla fudginess developing into zesty lemon drizzle cake and banana. Is there some nutmeg in there as well? Dry woody, toasted nuts finish. Whilst never harsh, a couple of drops of water just smooths it out. Lovely alcohol warmth completes the finish.

Settling down to live Scottish Championship football with a couple of drams. I bought this bottle of Speyside on a visit to Cadenheads in Campbeltown. The distillery is in Fogwatt a Norse word meaning 'A wood in which there might have been a church or a cell' 🤔

This is soooo good! Ripe apples, caramel and vanilla with a hint of wild strawberries. Fruity, red berry sweetness, with strong pepper and ginger tones, some dry oakiness. and smooth vanilla. Longish finish of more fruitiness, cinnamon and ginger. A belter!

Glen Keith Distillery Edition, NAS, CF, e150a, 40% abv.

Glen Keith produce some very expensive single malts. this isn't one - a bargain at £20 😀 .Toffee and vanilla with a strong whiff of pear drops. Nice sweet mouthful, some banana, mild spice and a bit of caramel. Uncomplicated with a wee bit harshness disappearing to honey on the finish. Glen Keith is the main malt in Chivas Regal and 100 Pipers blends.
