Mental note, a new use for my favourite formula:
damage_multiplier = remap(-1, 1, 0, 1, dot(shield_north, projectile_vector))
...or...
smoothstep(-1, 1, dot(shield_north, projectile_vector))
(need to see which one is better, probably the first, but the 2nd one will make raking stern-to-bow awesome, everything else ~50%ish damage reduction, and hitting the shield (whose "north" is usually the ship's forward, apart from those with multiple shield grids) has up to 100% DR.

I chose to signup up with the #fosstodon server because I strongly believe in using #opensource software that respects our privacy. I am the lead developer of the python based @shtools software that allows you to easily manipulate data expressed in #sphericalharmonics. I wish I had more time to code and contribute to other projects, but alas, I am overcommitted.
