This movie, more than Guardians of the Galaxy and How to Train Your Dragon, was the sequel I've looked forward to the most in a long long time.

And with how studios have been fucking up sequels by either:

A) kill someone from the previous movie because "gotta kill someone"
B) introduce plot that over-explains something interesting from the first
C) negate the previous movie(s)
D) all of the above (fuck you Spider-Man: No Way Home)

I was definitely approaching this with "please don't fuck this up for me please" attitude. I to the Spider-Verse is my favorite movie of the past 20+ years. I built a bot that posted a frame every hour on the hate site ( full-res images here: https://catbox.moe/c/awhr0o ) because of just how beautiful every single second of the film was art.

To say I was nervously watching the whole time wondering what "sequel trope" was going to kill this movie for me is a understatement. Mrs. Smiths watched me staring at the TV with my hands over my mouth not blinking muttering "don't don't don't" too many times during the film's 2:10 runtime.

And at the end?

It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. I dare say the best comparison would be Empire Strikes Back. The minor spoiler I can say is it is a movie that already had a planned second part, so the end credits arrive with some suspense.

Yeah, shit happens... but you're filled with anticipation and excitement as to how the shit will resolve. And even more with this movie, you are filled with *hope*

When it ended I didn't say a word for 5 minutes. I didn't know what to say. I just stared at the screen until a fucking tear made its way down my face.

Mrs. Smiths looked at me and was like "what's going on?" and all I could say was "I'm so happy"

I am going to watch this one as many times as I've watched the first, no doubt. I cannot wait for the next work from home day when I will be cranking the 4K HDR release up on the OLED in the basement with the surround sound deafening my neighbours.

And already Mrs. Smiths has commanded me to build another bot for this movie because she wants to see all the frames. Considering how nerdy she's always viewed my programming and "online" in general, it's pretty fucking cool to have her demand I hunker down and get to typing.

So yeah, if I'm to review any movie, this is it. Watch this one. It's how sequels should be done, especially ones you know will be followed by another sequel going into them.
