3/3 It has taken me five days, a plying ball, an oversized cup, a mini niddy-noddy, a bottle of sunscreen (don’t look at me like that, it was right at hand & the correct size), and every bit of patience I posses, but I am FINALLY plying this yarn.

Oh, that’s a Miss Marple’s Teacup spindle from Greensleeves spindles. It spins fooorreeever and I love it.

“And now for something completely different”

After spending most of my with my wheel, today I’m switching back to a poor neglected spindle project.

This is a merino-silk blend from Sweet Georgia, and I’m trying to spin a very fine lace yarn. I suspect I lost momentum because I’m in a dark grey part of the fiber braid instead of the turquoise I love

Ok, I am fully in love with this yarn.

Apothefaery handdyed merino combed top, chain-plied. Not yet washed/finished, so there’ll be a little more bloom and redistribution of twist.

Returning to spinning has been good for my mental health, so I started a new braid of merino today.

My last two “getting back into spinning” projects were rustic on purpose. I’m going for a much more even spin here.

First* chain ply off the wheel. I can really see both how much skill I’ve lost in my couple years away from the wheel, and how much skill was coming back just during the project. There’s a few wacky ugly yards in there, but most of it is good.

*I’ve chained singles onto a plying ball and then spun, but this is the first time I was chain plying directly off the lazy kate onto the wheel

I haven’t been using my wheel recently, and I’m thinking it would be good for my mental health to start a new spinning project. Pulled some very very random fiber from my stash and started something new.

I pulled out my lace whorl for this, so I’m not treadling forever to get enough twist. The pencil roving is quite thin.

Meet my Little Grace .

She is a beautiful little wheel. But she is special to me because she belonged to my Mum. I remember watching her spin as a child.

She died 6 years ago, but she feels closer when I am at her wheel. And I have fallen in love with this craft too.

& Something I've learned is to follow what you love and you will find joy in what you make.

And so Little Grace Yarn was born.

Beautiful soft & squishy . Ready for a hat I have in mind for a good friend.

I've had a bit of a crash this week, which meant being unable to do much. But I find I can still or as it doesn't require me to stand. It's so good for my state of mind to be able to do something and I think spinning is soothing for my .

or… track the temperature throughout the day, and have each row be a gradient of it.

sounds easiest to spin various pre-dyed roving together, except i tend to spin too thin to want to do singles, or too uneven when i try to do a worsted weight.
