With the ever-devolving state of search engines, I've been having trouble finding relevant sources for a topic I've encountered while talking with someone, but maybe someone on here can point me in the right direction.

Does anyone know of any folkloric accounts of Faeries or other nonhuman spirits/entities forming a one-sided attachment to a human and ultimately blocking their ability to form meaningful relationships (romantic, platonic, or otherwise) with other humans? Any sources or even personal anecdotes would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Spirit Communication Discernment Tips:

If you're new to spirit work, you may wonder how you can verify if the entity communicating with you is real or a figment of your imagination.

An easy way to check is to ask questions that are
1. Verifiable (meaning you can find the answer through research)
2. Discrete (meaning there's only one right answer).
3. Obscure (meaning it'd be difficult to just guess the right answer without some prior knowledge)

And make sure you ask a question that you don't already know the answer to!

If you're given the right answer, it's less likely that you're pulling nonsense from your own mind.

You might be interested in a recent chat I had with Cyndi Brannen and Coyote Mae. We talked about psychopomp work, a.k.a. deathwalking, underworld goddesses, and some of the concerns to look out for when undertaking this kind of work. Also, I look like a total goof in the thumbnail photo. 😂

(Disregarding the fact I somehow keep forgetting to post on here)

Let's talk about and the currents of the week leading up to (Orthodox Christian) Easter - and why they're important to pagans.

It's Great Friday today, and as the church bells ring their mournful tune, a veil of grief settles over the world. All is quiet, and the faithful gather flowers for the Epitaph. This somber mood lends a great advantage to if one is willing to experiment.

For us in Eastern Europe, the blending of pagan traditions with Christian elements is far from a surprise, yet it always seems to shock Westerners. Having the capacity to adapt and evolve can be a gift, and it leads to new horizons. But don't let me get carried away.

This blanket of grief will linger over the hearts and minds of those who believe, growing until it reaches its crescendo at midnight on Saturday, and is dissipated by the joy of the Resurrection. In short, this is free real estate for your magic. Of course, any energy of this magnitude needs to be treated with the appropriate risk mitigation, but I am assuming the reader is educated on how to safely interact with energy.

So, what exactly can one do with this energy? Many things, really, but let's start with the simplest and work our way up.

If you've been curious about death work, this is a prime opportunity to introduce yourself to the energy currents without overwhelming yourself. You can dip your toes in the river without getting swept away, because the water has risen far past the shore.

For those already immersed in the work, you will find ease in crossing the bounds or calling forth spirits who may have otherwise had trouble reaching through. Friday is what I jokingly call this day, because it really feels like any I see is barely kept out of the physical world. work of course would be well-received, whether you offer a ritual meal or communicate with them through your preferred means.

in general may be easier for those not yet experienced as well, due to the curiosity some spirits have over such strong emotion in the human population.

Rituals such as cord cuttings, banishments and other such "getting rid of" workings would also benefit from harnessing these energies, as would astral travel and dream work- granted you take the appropriate measures to guard yourself from what may be lurking - but you should already be taking those safety measures anyway! Ritual death and rebirth are definitely worth a mention, though I rarely see them talked about, so if you know you know.

To summarise: The energy of a major religious event is there, so why not make use of it for your magic and workings?

I do want to get ahead of the potential mean comments here and say I understand that many turned to and to escape Christianity and the religious trauma that came with their upbringing. This isn't a pro-Christianity post. This is a suggestion people are free to implement or ignore based on their practice and boundaries.

Just realized tonight that it's a strong boundary of mine not to talk shop with self-identified psychics and thr otherwise head-sensitive unless they have a basic concept of spiritual boundary setting.

Because if not, it probably means they don't have a functional set of human boundaries either and are going to waste my time dumping their spiritual quirks and problems onto me.

Bone post!

Do you feel humbled, coming across the of a life that's gone by?

Life in the mountains means we have far more opportunity to see first-hand, to reach out and be taught by it.
Cities are too fast-paced for me- I do not have enough time to pull the pigeon from the road before the bus ravages its tiny body, nor to take the kitten that sickness claimed before the sanitary workers dispose of it like it was trash. I'm sure others who do thrive just fine there. Just not my style.

I much prefer the forest, because here, death lingers. The song thrush will melt into the earth that fed it, and its feathers may come to be the nest bed of a fresh clutch of eggs. The old fox will go to sleep in her den and wake in a different world, the snow covering her home's entrance until it's warm enough for the critters to nourish themselves on the body she left behind. We see death, sometimes invite it in- be it or culling livestock. We honour death and the life it brings.

This beautiful lady was a life. An ewe that likely bore several lives herself, before death took her. I have a special place in my heart for sheep. My people have lived alongside them for so long that maybe it's in our blood by now. She wanted to come home with me, to sit near me and the other unseen friends I keep. How could I say no?

I brought her home, meaning to dye her with coffee to help the myriad textures of her bone steal the show with more contrast, but that's another post altogether.

crew, this one's for you.

Decided to finally write my ✨ first post ✨ on here, in hopes I'll like this place enough to establish myself and share things on here.

Is it just me that's incredibly picky about online spaces? It can be difficult for me to take the plunge and explore a new site or platform, and this goes doubly so for witchy/pagan/spiritual oriented places because after years of being (a queer) Greek online, I know what I'll see, and some times you just do not have the energy to get into arguments because foreigners think they know better than you your own culture. Fun stuff. Anyway. Positive thinking and whatnot. Hopefully the people here are chill!

I miss sharing informative tidbits and exchanging perspectives and methods with fellow practitioners, you know? It's nice to get to see how other cultures, other people do things, especially when you get to draw parallels and point out differences and similarities. There are good people out there, curious and respectful people who are willing to learn without overstepping boundaries and who take correction with grace. That's why I keep coming back to posting, I guess, regardless of platform. I like helping people learn.

What kind of posts you can expect from me: like , including but not limited to and decks, , and , and oh and of course. I'm sure some posts about textiles (knitting, weaving, etc.) will worm their way over as well.

Hopefully this is how the tag system works here, lol.

I'm personally wary of occult sources that stereotype entities.

(Example: Saying that all Faeries are too evil to work with or are all untrustworthy. Or saying that all non-human hauntings are inherently malicious/parasitic.)

While certain traits may be more common among certain entities, non-human beings are hardly a monolith amongst themselves. It's just like no two humans are exactly alike, even if they share certain traits or a common background. In some ways, the differences between non-human entities may even be *more* nuanced.

And, as an aside, I find the folks most likely to demonize the non-human Other are also more likely to demonize other humans who exist on the margins.

Wizard Problems:

Maybe I've just gotten too familiar with my mediating spirit, because I hardly recognize the distinction between us. People talk about them like they're a separate thing, and I'm left wondering if maybe I'm the only one having a Bleed Effect. I don't pay much mind to the three dimensional differences.

From the zettel vault:

There are three categories of spirits humans encounter:

1. The personal (given at birth)
2. God's interceding "Holy" Spirit (gifted through grace)
3. The spirits of other beings, living or dead (called upon or rejected)

When examining our impulses, as in the practice of Ignatian spirit discernment, it's important to recognize which we are responding to and engaging with.

Witch Tip: Spirits aren't always all-knowing. Some may have a considerable amount of knowledge on some topics and then be nearly clueless about others; verify what a spirit knows before accepting the validity of their advice and information.
