I like to make Fire Emblem sprites out of fuse beads. I use #Aseprite to redraw sprites in the bead colors I have, and to make any design changes. My finished pieces usually end up on display here in my cubicle.

Couldn't sleep, so I tried to debug what was going on with rendering small graphics. That text is on the graphics layer, and it's done using a single "sprite" type with 128 different frames that cover ASCII plus a range of other useful graphics. Since they don't need to move or behave any particular way they're really more "special effect" than "sprite". But as part of my testing, I needed more than just the holodragons, and these one-eyed things sort of happened. Spooky.
After a while away from this, I'm back to working on Fixl. The next milestone will be to have multiple sprite types that all act differently, so the first step there is to make sure I can load multiple spritesheets and have them render correctly. The goal here is to be able to leave an animated trail, which needs:
• a different sprite size
• a sprite state with multiple frames
• sprites that can delete themselves
It's surprisingly complex once you get into the details.

the game was called "OUT" back then English names seemed great to us... here you can see which #sprites I used back then...
...Luckily there were also half steps for the ball, so I could move the ball more fluidly with 4 pixels per tick than with 8 pixels in the row/column grid
