Playing PlinkoNim against my #DataStructures class. This game was the topic of a talk at #Sprouts2023
Congratulations to BlobBuilder, written by @emptygame , the 2023 Computer World Champion of Flag Coloring (http://kyleburke.info/DB/combGames/flagColoring.html). BlobBuilder won the AI tournament at #Sprouts2023 and will face off against Dr. Matt Eicholtz (human champion) in our John Henry match. (We had to postpone this because I didn't get the site ready beforehand.) The date of that match is To Be Determined. Great job Ian, for coding up BlobBuilder!
Sprouts was amazing today! We had great talks, a great tournament, and overall just a great time. Thanks to all of our brave and talented speakers. Of our six young academics, one was a high schooler and two are first-year college students! Thanks to Melissa for an excellent keynote address. And thanks to Craig for running things smoothly.
My summaries of the talks are here: https://combinatorialgametheory.blogspot.com/2023/04/sprouts-2023-talks.html
#Sprouts2023 was a success and I'm already looking forward to next year.
Notebooks for in-person attendees are looking great! #Sprouts2023 #CombinatorialGames

I am so lucky that we have a good schedule for Sprouts on Saturday! Here's the agenda: http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/#agenda If you're interested in attending any part of it, follow the registration instructions on the above page. (It's free!)
We also got our first Flag Coloring computer player submission! I'm expecting one more, so we should have an actual competition!

#Sprouts2023 update: We currently have 4 talks + our keynote (http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/index.php) and a little bird has told me to expect two more talk proposals today. Thanks to everyone for sending in their proposals!
We should be nailing down the times for the tournaments soon! #CombinatorialGames

I just fixed a critical error in the software for the tournament for #Sprouts2023. I definitely did the thing where I was developing in production. ... because I like to live dangerously.
If you were testing out Flag Coloring over the past hour or so and it was running slowly, that's why. Just give that page (http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/flagColoringComputerTournament.php) a hard refresh. Remember that players are due tomorrow (Thursday) night!
Update on #Sprouts2023, the #CombinatorialGames conference for #undergraduateresearch: We have 15 registered attendees and 4 scheduled speakers, with 1 or 2 more people who we expect to submit abstracts. http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/
We still don't have any submissions for the AI Flag Coloring tournaments. We are extending the due date by an extra day: Thursday of next week. That will give us enough time to set up the tournament page. Also, by popular request, I have provided the FlagColoring javascript source code. It is at the bottom of the tournament page: http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/flagColoringComputerTournament.php At this point, any player has a good chance to win! Submit something!
(At what point of not having any submissions am I allowed to write my own player for the tournament? Maybe by Monday?)

Recently, Craig and I added Ludo #Archaeology to the list of allowed non-Math/CS topics for #Sprouts2023. Although I don't expect that to make a difference this year, it'll be there for future years. http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/
#Sprouts2023 update: We are very excited to have info about our Keynote speaker on the site: http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/ We also have abstracts for two of the contributed talks listed. Keep submitting abstracts and we'll keep reviewing them!
Are you an undergrad who likes to play a combinatorial or abstract game? Speaking here is a great way to get experience giving an academic talk!
Also, please remember that the AI players are due on Wednesday, March 29.

Update on #Sprouts2023: for the AI competition, I added functionality to the site so you can test two full players against each other: http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/flagColoringComputerTournament.php (Scroll to the bottom.) No submissions so far, but I have heard from three people/teams working on it! Sprouts is April 1 (no joke) but AI players are due a few days ahead of time. #CombinatorialGames

@CGTKyle No worries! I thought someone on here might be able to give me a starting point. Might ask again in the new year.
#Sprouts2023 sounds interesting! Do you have an idea roughly what time it’ll run? I’m wondering whether it’ll be difficult to engage with for my undergrads here in the UK.
In my haste to get the Sprouts 2023 announcement out, I messed up two things in that Toot (https://mathstodon.xyz/@CGTKyle/109565143793594789)
* The links in the blog entry weren't active. (Silly Blogger.) I fixed that: https://combinatorialgametheory.blogspot.com/2022/12/sprouts-2023-scheduled-for-april-1.html
* The call for talks is on the Sprouts site directly, not the blog post. That site is here: http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/index.php

First toot: our announcement for #Sprouts2023. We will be holding it virtually (Zoom) on April 1, 2023 (this is not a joke). Details and the Call for Talks is here: https://combinatorialgametheory.blogspot.com/2022/12/sprouts-2023-scheduled-for-april-1.html
This year we're playing Flag Coloring, a PSPACE-complete impartial game. You can play it here: http://kyleburke.info/DB/combGames/flagColoring.html We're having a computer tournament again! Instructions for submitting a player are here: http://kyleburke.info/sprouts/sprouts2023/flagColoringComputerTournament.php
We really need talks this year! Know any CGT-interested undergrads?
