When an #SPSS user writes: "The final factor analysis was run using Principal Component Analysis with a fixed number of four factors", did they run the equivalent of an EFA using the principal factor solution method as in psych::fa(x, fm = "pa")? Or did they actually run a PCA which they are calling FA?! I'm confused... 😫 #statistics #Rstats

Just used #multipleimputation in #SPSS for the first time (used Stata and R before). It's not bad (I'd give it a B) and the reporting pooled estimates works well. That said (1) I had a terrible time imputing categorical variables and (2) skip patterns don't work well because I can't specify constraints to only impute certain variables for given values of another variable.

Venturing into SPSS for the first time in years. It is only for some basic analysis on a small data set, but I'm mildly concerned that my texts are

(a) more than 20 years, and
(b) 16 version ago.

Als ich vor ein paar Jahren erstmals damit in Kontakt gekommen bin, war ich erstaunt, dass sich Statistikprogramme wie #SPSS halten können, obwohl man in Programmiersprachen wie #R oder #Python dasselbe - und mehr - tun kann. Und sie im Gegensatz zu SPSS vollkommen kostenfrei sind (wobei das auch auf das von der Benutzung her deutlich näher an SPSS liegende PSPP-Statistikprogramm zutrifft).

I have V. 27 installed on macOS 12.x Monterey. I wish to upgrade to macOS 13.x Ventura, but I'm not sure if it's supported (officially or unofficially).

There's nothing explicit on the IBM support page.

remember that #SPSS has been around for nearly 60 years, and it's been first batch commands with punched cards then terminal only for decades, before they propped up a GUI, like the many you can also find for #rstats
it was actually written in fortran (obviously?) like #rstats.
you can hate and mock SPSS and SAS because they're owned by corporates, but as a software I can't see any difference with #rstats, which is on the same path, only 30 years later

Need help re 2x2 Factorial #MANOVA in #rstudio - mahalanobis distance giving different values to #SPSS (which requires data be split across both IVs to calculate for each cell of study design). Think the R code I have assumes it's a one-way design, not sure how to fix! #rstats
