Modesty Blaise (1966) is a movie misfire that is still interesting enough to be worth seeing. Nowhere near as good as the novels or comics. All the movie's problems could have been avoided by sacking Joseph Losey as director.

Soon there will be new content for #MossysMovieRankings: We are starting with the #MissionImpossible series today.
Particularly excited about the action scenes and tech gadgets over the years, and whether the second part is as bad as I remember it.

The main problem with Carol Reed's NIGHT TRAIN TO MUNICH (1940) starring Margaret Lockwood is that you're going to compare it to THE LADY VANISHES with which it has a lot in common. Not as good as Hitchcock's film but a decent train thriller.

I watched 3 DAYS TO KILL last night. Either #AmberHeard is a really great actor, or everything Johnny said about her is true. (I know, I know) She's incredibly hot and deliciously evil in that movie. The perfect anti-hero. It's easy to see why he fell in love with her.

Dimension 5 (1966) tries to combine espionage and scifi in an ambitious way and considering the tiny budget it’s a lot better than one might have feared. In fact it’s fun, with spies jumping across space and time and plots to blow up cities.

Ice Station Zebra (1968), one of my favourite Alistair MacLean adaptations. More a low-key espionage drama than an action movie but there's suspense and danger on the ice and under it.
Patrick McGoohan makes a fine spy hero. He gets good support from Rock Hudson and Ernest Borgnine.

Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), superior in every way to his ill-advised 1956 remake.
This is a tense hard-hitting spy thriller and one of the first movies to deal with terrorism. One of Hitchcock's most violent movies.
Great performances by all cast members with Peter Lorre the standout.

Fantomas (1964), first of the popular French Fantomas adventure/crime films. Superficially with a lot in common with the eurospy movies of the 60s. Certainly influenced by the success of the Bond movies.
Based on the early 20th century Fantomas novels.
Fantomas is one of the great diabolical criminal masterminds.
Great stylish fun.

A future James Bond film: the rending of hearts, a unique spin on nuclear blackmail, and a climax at Lake Baikal? Sounds awesome, doesn't it?

My next Bond: ski chases choreographed to "You Know My Name", social media manipulation, Tibetan monasteries, dancing with shadows, and more. The title: "Shadows Never Lie".

Where should Bond go after "No Time to Die"? In short: classic escapist but still serious adventure that's not a character study of Bond.
