You're right that a shotgun is a much better home defense weapon.

For community defense and armed protection outside the home, a handgun is ideal because it can be carried concealed. Definitely should use hollow points, to prevent pass-through that could hit others.

In any situation with guns, training is important. Connect with others who can help train you or look into classes in your area. Groups like the #SRA are useful and welcoming to beginners.

Well you seem to be capable to ignore the dozens of #StochasticTerrorism threats by rw reactionary extremists against #trans and #drag events which had to literally be guarded by #SRA members and armed queer people as a clear and functioning deterrence?

That's the #2A defending the #1A against facism in action - as it was designed and intended to be done!

#Defense and #CommunityDefense are also absolutely crucial right now. The growing threat of fascist violence cannot be underestimated.

This one will vary based on region, but many #SocialistRifleAssociation chapters are great. While not an organization that does many actions itself, it's a great way to network, and I guarantee its members are active, if not under the #SRA banner.

Other potential groups are things like the #JohnBrownGunClub, or #PinkPistols could be an option depending on the chapter. I don't know a ton about these individually, so I'd always encourage looking into your local area.

I'd also coordinate with your community and friends to ensure you can protect each other in emergencies. Community solidarity goes a long way.

I really wish SRA would stop publicly blasting whatever bad takes and internal drama the national leadership are currently trying to enforce unity on now. I Should probably delete their RSS feed for my own sanity.

I had high hopes for that organization, but maybe going for 501c status (and the kind of nonsense that a lot of folks think is necessary for maintaining it) wasn't worth it.

The spike over the past year in confrontations at Drag shows and brunches has been a galvanizing force for some. Images of armed leftists defending such shows have done a lot for organizing, and while it's worrying how necessary such action has become, the trend of community defense is hopeful.

However, I can't help wonder what comes next. As more state governments are enacting bans on trans care and drag, the threat has escalated. What happens when the angry anti-trans mob appears outside a drag brunch, this time bolstered with cops? Does armed leftist defense dissipate with the threat of state violence?

We can't tolerate oppression like this, but how many blink in the face of such escalation? We need community defense more than ever, in whatever form it takes.
