In 2018, I had a chat with retired Dover RNLI Coxswain Tony Hawkins about a very unusual call for the Dover lifeboat — the rescue of passengers from the Princess Margaret SRN4 Cross Channel hovercraft following a fatal collision with the harbour wall on 30th March 1985.

It would have been my Mum’s 65th birthday today (she died from cancer in 2000 aged 42).

I’m 47 now, so it feels very strange to have already outlived her by five years. It’s made me realise just how young she was, not least as I feel that I was only just getting started in my early 40s!

This is one of my favourite photographs of her from the days when she worked as cabin crew on the huge #SRN4 cross Channel hovercrafts between Ramsgate and Calais.
