...of course I realize that when we're talking about standard American cars, we're talking about a speed standard of the number of miles one traverses in an hour. Speed is still a ratio even so...except for Europe where it's kilometers per whatever. That, too, remains a ratio.

And the ratio is one where time is a factor. Using speed to define time itself is recursive with distance (space) an additional factor. #DUH

And yet the brilliant find the violation irresistable to indulge in too often.

You have one hour; the more miles you can travel in an hour, the faster you're going, but you see, it's relative to a set standard. FastER than when you cover fewer miles.

You have one mile to traverse; the shorter the time you take to drive one mile means you're going fastER then when you take more time.

A lot of these brilliant physicists need to go on a Sunday drive and get caught behind the proverbial "Sunday Driver" so they can re-think things over.

...and while I'm about the business of airing pet peeves with brilliant physicists, I'll air another: too frequently the brilliant will refer to "speed" as if it was a fundamental prime entity when fact remains that it is a ratio of distance and the time it took to traverse that distance. It is NOT a prime anything in any universe.

An example of a "time machine" in the SA article requires two cars and how fast one is going. WTF? "Fast" = arbitrary time taken to travel undefined distance. Please.
