My stick-on cork board and white board have arrived, along with some nifty little wooden push pins, including those handy clothes peg types. I only have to dust off the wall. Problem? I need a level to hang even a picture, I just don't have an eye for straight lines. And with a touch of OCD I know that the slightest touch of off-kilter will drive me into a fit of sulks every time I go into the room. 🤣

Just received my custom OS map of my village, Waterfall in . Much cheaper than they used to be, and thinner paper than the regular maps so easier to attach to a corkboard. Wherever I've lived, I've always been in a corner of the map, so customised is a useful option!

I've taken the leap, and chosen Waterfall in Staffordshire UK for my One Place Study. Giving nameandplace.com a trial - designed specifically for these types of projects. I think someone here suggested it, so thanks!

Been thinking for a while of doing a for either Waterfall in , my maternal family's home, or in , my paternal ancestors home. That's already been started, but the owner did offer to let me take over. Not sure I've got the skills and experience though, and I don't live near either.

Much too wet to go out, so I'm wading through parish and census records for Waterfall in Staffordshire, UK, where my mothers family lived up until about 1870. Family name is Coates.

@OurAncestors my mother was from Goldenhill, her family moved to Stoke in the 1860's from Waterfall. Family name was Coates. The earliest Pointon I have was Henry, born 1871 in Tunstall.

Yesterday I did some from Ellastone to Ilam Hall (through Gold's Wood, Stanton Wood and Catholes Wood) and then followed the river back to Ashbourne.

It was a beautiful sunny day, 16.73 miles through a lot of overgrown paths (legs cut to shreds) and I have a massive blister on my heel, but it as a lot of fun!

No headphones in, just me and my thoughts and it did me good.

Here are a few

We passed Chris on Elektra (www.pink-narrowboat.com) and stopped for a chat about his boating plans and our boating planes given the upcoming closure of the Bosley and Marple flights of locks. He's heading up.

Then we had the brown water (toilet) pumped out, filled the fresh water (drinking, washing), and worked one last lock to reach the lower end of the Macclesfield.

Local radio has been reacting to this as though the entire county is about to be shaken to pieces.

The Flaxman film theatre lit by bright sun while dark storm clouds pass overhead. Opened in 1974 and still has some original features/hasn’t been too hideously modernised or painted like so many contemporaneous buildings.

We'll never reach Frog Hall by boat.

We set out from Leek tunnel to the other Caldon arm, at Hazelhurst junction.

We heard a whistle blow in the valley and later saw a steam at . Then we were on the river to the lime kilns. At Flintmill , a sign warns the height limit in Frog Hill tunnel is 4 feet 4 inches. The Collins guide said 5 feet. Still, our boat, which has typical dimensions, is too tall.

At the locks at Heakley Hall and Baddeley Green, I noticed several wall-like sculptures. There was no sign, so I don't know anything about the artist, date, materials or title of the works.

Here's a photo of one of them.

The Memorial on Cannock Chase in remembers the 25,000 Polish men and women murdered in cold blood by the Soviet Secret Police. Atrocities and war crimes should never be forgotten.
