Just found out today is St Agnes Eve - which features a particularly gross cake 🍰
The St Agnes folk tradition stated that single young women should fast then make a cake with their friends made from salt, flour, soot and... equal parts of everyone's urine 😳😳
Then once the cake was baked in silence an apparition of their future husband would appear and hand them a piece of the cake.
More here though CW for sexual violence: https://tradfolk.co/customs/customs-customs/st-agnes-eve/
It's St Agnes Eve and sympathetically frosty:
"St. Agnes’ Eve—ah, bitter chill it was!
The owl, for all his feathers, was a-cold;
The hare limped trembling through the frozen grass,
And silent was the flock in woolly fold;.... "
One of Keat's finest poems.
