In memory of my Aunt Christina (1927-2022) who along with my mum, Muirdina (1929-2018); the sisters got me interested in stamp collecting, my aunt was a First Day Cover collector and she sent first day covers and new issues to me from 1977 through 1985. In March 1977 my mum returned for a UK visit to family, taking me with her; my first purchase there was the Royal Institute of Chemistry set on sale (2 March, we landed on 27 March). For me this is the set that started it all. #stampcollecting

Another UK Seahorse, this time 2 shillings and 6 pence, 1927 printing with a close up of the top left stamp. The value was usually abbreviated and written as 2/6 and also known as a half crown (which was also the name of a coin which I think was last produced before the 20th century). By extension 5 shillings was also known as a crown, which was also a coin, the last being a commemorative coin, produced in 1965. #ukstamps #stampcollecting #timbres

I ordered a bunch of stamps from Isle of Man and, for my free item, they included this collector sheet of steam trains that were originally issued between 1988-2010. I really like that the booklet includes specifications of the original issues. #philately #stampcollecting

The Royal Mail is issuing stamps to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Sir Terry #Pratchett's amazing #Discworld. I may have to order these.

Got some interesting Yugo specimens at a club auction a while back. Just getting around to cataloguing them. These were made by the American Banknote Company, whicch always did a fantastic job of making and printing engraved designs.

I have literally thousands of stamps to sort & put in albums. I'm going to get in to it again after a bit of a hiatus. Can't find my stamp tweezers though... French, New Zealand, GB & thematic collections (Cricket, Harry Potter & Star Wars) to work on. Always keeps me occupied & the brain ticking over nicely. Need to acquire more albums though. Canada, 1983, 32 cents. 100th anniversary of the death of Josiah Henson, American slave, Methodist preacher. Henson founded a settlement and school in #Canada, and is believed to be the inspiration for the hero of the 1852 novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

#India - Hyderabad, 1937, 1 anna. 25th anniversary of the crowning of the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. The stamp depicts Osmania University, which began to be constructed in 1934. The stamp is one of four stamps issued for the anniversary.

Rhodesia, 1971, 15 cents. Frederick Courtney Selous (1851-1917) was a British explorer, officer, hunter, conservationist. His adventures were the inspiration for the Allan Quatermain character created by Sir Henry Rider Haggard. The stamp is one of a series of famous Rhodesians.

Portuguese Guinea, 1960, 1.50 escudo. 10th anniversary of the Commission for Technical Cooperation in Africa South of the Sahara. The commission was established in 1950 in Paris, France, with an international agreement signed in 1954 in London, England, by Belgium, France, and the United Kingdom. The commission was formed to provide technical assistance to African countries south of the Sahara.
