As a photographer, hot air balloons fascinate me. The colors, shapes, patterns of the balloons are typically very vibrant and cheerful.
This balloon was partially inflated when I noticed the star at the top of the balloon with a beautiful burst of color around the star.

I have some more dramatic examples which I'll put up later. It was fun to watch the flaring through the viewfinder - producing a spiralling pattern of flare and colour. And although I tried to record that effect on video, it was simply too dark.

Hmm... Even though it was not the only thing, but when one receives big bags of #M&M's, #Skittles, #StarBurst, #Oreo's, and, #Gummies, all for #Christmas, one might think that your #family is trying to make a poit with their #gifts! In recent Decembers, I braved the cold to take a photograph of our village green Xmas tree.

I use a tripod and a very small aperture (which then needs a long exposure), this leads to an effect where light diffracts through the tiny gaps between the overlapping fins of the camera's iris to create starbursts.

This year, I also used that long exposure to create a light trail with my phone to sign it with my dB/.

I am a research astronomer at Stockholm University, Sweden, with a special interest in ISM properties in #starburst #galaxies throughout the history of the Universe, especially in the context of escape of ionizing photons and the Epoch of Reionization.

I use both ground-based telescopes (such as the #VLT and #NOT), and space based telescopes such as the #Hubble Space Telescope and the #JWST to study these galaxies.

Thought I would stop posting ultracompact #starburst #galaxies but this new one is kind of beautiful. Observed by #HST on Saturday, it's a compact knot inside an extended fuzz of stars. Restframe UB & R bands, there are not tremendous color variations. #astrodon
