#StarCraft (1998) had a unit selection limit of 12 at a time, and partly due to that, even pro matches were wild and all over the map.

In #StarCraft2 the limit was lifted, resulting in matches revolving more around "death balls" of entire armies, and it lost a lot of the chaotic micromanagement that many people found so fun.

It's a good example of how QoL isn't always for the better, or how arbitrary restrictions that might seem questionable (i.e. why 12?) can enhance a game.

@dpwiz you know in #StarCraft2 there was a nice mode where orders to your units cost money. This is a nice way to prevent spam and emphasise strategy over tactics in an #RTS.

Gonna play some 4vs4 #StarCraft 2 with my buddies. As proper players, we mostly loose. To paraphrase the classic:

That I'm 3 days late to know that is one thing.

Even weirder is the fact I learnt that from a tweet by The Game Awards. Not StarCraft, Blizzard or Microsoft themselves, but freakin' The Game Awards.

Even with my low expectations about ActiBlizz these days this still feels so weird.

For reference on how I'm playing #StarCraft2 in Linux, in Steam use the Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library option. Download the BattleNet installer and Browse... for it from the above Steam option. From the newly created Steam page for that .EXE, click the gear and choose Properties...
Go to Compatibility and enable Proton. The first time, it'll install BattleNet, on subsequent runs it'll just launch it. You can install StarCraft 2 from that launcher, and it launches just fine!

Have had plenty of other games to play, but this week I got back to #StarCraft2. Both Lutris and Bottles had both ended up confusing me with "installing" and yet *not* installing the game? But I used the Steam "add non-steam game" trick and that works! It's slightly slow to start up, and I'd say there's a tiny bit of lag in game but not enough to ruin game play for me. Played a few single player rounds, and a bunch of 2 and 3 player games.
