The Stargazer Project: Part 1

I recently decided to embark on a series of drawings/paintings that has a focus on the stars and the sky, inspired by a particularly intense round of Elite Dangerous and one of my favourite members of my community.

Since I started learning to draw, my guiding light that keeps me moving forward are the works of CosmicUnicorn. She left the fandom back around 2016, but her art remains visible and continues to enthrall and amaze me every time I look at it. You can find an archive of her works on DeviantArt if you search her name!

This is one of my first forays into background art, at least the digital kind, and i'm pleased with the result. I'll be using the Stargazer project to practice my landscapes and night skys a lot more going forward, so keep an eye out!

I still haven't quite nailed the pose I want to use for the character portion of the Stargazer Project, so I'm using it as an excuse to try several different variations. This is #2, and I like it lots more than the one I posted last! Weirdly enough though, I think I'm the only one that thinks so. Lol, that's usually how it goes.

More art in the future, I expect. The dam has broken, and I've got a huge amount of pent up creative energy to expend.

I took some artistic liberties with permission, and turned her from an amphibian into a fish. Woo, being an artist is awesome, I can create my own realities!

Part 36/78, The King of Cups represents someone who is emotionally balanced, compassionate, and diplomatic. While this may seem more like Celestia than Luna on the surface, I couldn't help but think about Luna after she'd conquered the Tantabus- so calm and self assured, confident in her ability to do her divine task of guarding the night and our dreams. The Cups arcana is one of water and healing, and what better way to finish it than with Luna as it's master?

Bit of a departure from the Namii project this week as I return to the project that started this whole artistic odyssey, my Tarot Ponies series!

Part 35/78! This is the traditional piece, the Queen of Swords. The card itself, in upright position at least, represents independent and unbiased judgement, clear boundaries, and direct communication. This very much reminds me of post reformation Starlight Glimmer, after she's had a chance to address her demons.

The Swords arcana is interpreted as elemental air, so while I might have chosen a pegasus in her place, I instead opted for an airy background and scene.
