#SeptembeRPG Day 6: That game you really want to play but can't seem to find the right group or time for

I find myself in the privileged position to know many fine people ♥️ who are all in for playing all kinds of #ttrpgs. Alas, there never seems to be enough time. Would love to run a long game of #ApocalypseWorld or a #DarkSun or #StarsWithoutNumber / #Traveller campaign 


Gestern eine eher ruhige Session in unserer #starswithoutnumber-Kampage Starr-Marshall gehabt. Ich hoffe, es war nicht zu ruhig. Ein bisschen habe ich versucht, an die Menschen in den PCs zu appellieren, dass sie den großen Krieg nicht links liegen lassen können.
Die haben sich vor einiger Zeit von ihrer Fraktion losgesagt, jetzt gewinnt die frühere Gegnerfraktion. Die PCs sind gerade in deren Domäne und erleben, wie schlecht es eigentlich den Menschen unter den KIs geht.

@greenspindle @Frank82R es gibt schon diese echt beeindruckende #Darksun Adaption für #OSE 🙂 Denke auch, das #WorldsWithoutNumber voll gut funktionieren würde. Tolle dnd Variante und das Setting ist schon postapokalyptisch angelegt und aus dem voll-kompatiblen #StarsWithoutNumber könnte man die Psionics-Regeln klauben

Smartest TTRPG I've played? I could make an argument for Path/Starfinder. But honestly I think #StarsWithoutNumber takes the cake. Does it well but oooh boy can you get into the weeds 😅.

Favorite Character? That isn't fair 😣, there are so many to pick. I think it might be Freddy Mason, a PI tiefling who fights the paranormal but is bored at the cliches. One of the few characters I can say I've played out to completion. Fun group/game helped 😁.

GM's who've been running campaigns in #Traveller #StarsWithoutNumber and similar games, what is your experience with finding a good size for the setting and the number of actually detailed planets that might come up meaningfully in a campaign?

I could use some help on how to convert a creature from #mothershiprpg to other #osr games, particularly #cairn / #meteorrpg or #starswithoutnumber .

I get that this thing isn't going to fight, or is pretty flighty. But I don't really understand the Mothership stats or system so Im not sure how resilient it should be.

Or maybe it doesn't need stats. Just treat it as something that runs away from threats and keeps popping up?

@andy @DMWolffy it’s sort of a hypothetical, because to my knowledge that system doesn’t currently exist. The closest would be #StarsWithoutNumber, which has three classes but most character differentiation comes from foci (basically more impactful feats).

To rephrase the question though: is your issue with open-ended character building through feats, or with the complexity that feats bring to a system that already has a pretty complex class system?

So what should we collectively call #Traveller #StarsWithoutNumber and #ScumAndVillainy (And maybe also #Coriolis )

It seems to me that these are all just different game mechanics to represent the same kind of science fiction setting. Anything that isn't a game mechanic question should apply to each one like to any other.

Is it Space Opera?

Space Adventure?

I've read the #Traveller Core Rulebook from 2008 and found it to be very uninspiring and generic.

Though in fairness, the game is over 40 years old, and I guess everything it had that was new and unique for a space setting has also been copied by #StarsWithoutNumber #ScumAndVillany and #Coriolis

@MerricB @LeviKornelsen and he’s made it as a sandbox system full of tools for the GM with minimal but interesting setting fluff that can be used whole cloth or jettisoned completely. #scifi #SWN #StarsWithoutNumber
