Let's look at other pokemon in "Monster" egg group...

...all widely consider so versatile, intelligent, and docile (though latter possibly myth) that commonly raised in #StarterPokemon programs. Am not see why called "Monster". (Though fascinated know share egg group with Shadow)

Look at more: Nidoran, Rhyhorn, Kangaskhan, and Mareep like me... All live in field eat grass, no "monster".

So why is called "Monster"?

Research seem say have big tails or large body, but not all have either, so unsure. Even then, why not "tailed" or "giant"? Seems misnomer as artifact of early breeding research: term strange for use.
