@GamerMomLuna I am facilitating a one-shot of the GM-less RPG "Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands" with Magpie Games Community Play Day tomorrow.
And I'll be playing in a continuing campaign of "Star Trek: Warp Cortex" on Sunday. That game is Modiphius "Star Trek Adventures" RPG with the game engine ported over from the 2d20 System to Cortex Prime.

Day 3 at #GenCon. Picked up the Captain’s Log book which is a solo version of the #StarTrekRPG. Also picked up more dice (shiny! grey!) and the Solo Gamemaster’s Guide. Also checked out the gigantic houses of cards.
The first RPG I bought this year?
If we're talking a while new RPG, it would be the Star Trek RPG. If looking at any RPG related purchase, it was Delver issue 7.
The first RPG I bought ever was the D&D Rules Cyclopedia.

Last weekend on #StarTrekAdventures (and on Discord), the USS Sienkiewicz Away Team try to convince the colonists to leave the planet being pulled into the accretion disk of the black hole "Das Schwarze Auge".
Meanwhile the Away Team and the last 70 evacuees are trapped in the shielded colony as the atmo becomes an ion storm thanks to multiple nearby asteroid strikes. Their only hope lies in the unique crystals known as gravitronium.

#CharacterCreationChallenge Day 25-ish: Star Trek Adventures (Modiphius)
More unexpected day job nonsense took too much time & energy again today, so I'll just drop Lt. Surin in the Modiphius #StarTrekRPG version here (very clear character creation process, 2d20 looks like a cool system, but only six skills is maybe too much abstraction for me) and then declare the Challenge prematurely semi-finished. I guess 25 isn't too bad.
Many thanks to @TardisCaptain! Let's do it again next year!

You can absolutely feel that this game was made mostly by the same people who made LUG's #StarTrekRPG, such as in the way you build a character by combining templates.
Unfortunately the organisation and editing of the book is not very good, I'm not convinced the addition of professions does anything other than add unnecessary complexity and limit flexibility, and I don't like the 2d6 skill check mechanic.
So yeah, not really a fan. (Sorry.) 3/3
#StarTrek #ttrpg #charactercreationchallenge #startrekrpg
This version of Lt. Surin definitely feels less interesting to me. The skill selection is more limited, and there's now a distiction between profession and non-profession (more expensive) skills, which makes the process less flexible. In this case, I wasn't able to fit in his diplomatic experiences, for example.
Also you don't really get the same sense of building a character's backstory as with the old system's tours of duty. 2/3

#CharacterCreationChallenge Day 24-ish: Star Trek RPG (Decipher)
So in 2000, Last Unicorn was sold, partially to WotC and the rest to the game company Decipher. The #StarTrek license went to Decipher, but apparently the rights to LUG's ICON system did not, or maybe they just preferrered to make their own. I don't know what happened, but either way, the CODA #StarTrekRPG was the result, and (spoiler alert), I don't particularly like it. 1/3
#ttrpg #startrekrpg #StarTrek #charactercreationchallenge
I really like Last Unicorn's #StarTrekRPG. It's very clean and accessible, and the template-based character creation system is easy to use and gives a good sense of the character's background.
I'm not a big fan of #TTRPG systems using difficulty numbers, but apart from that, this feels perfectly decent. And the book is well-organised, which I have gained a new appreciation for after this past month, because oh boy, there are some that are *not* that. 5/5

Another highlight of Surin's career was serving as science advisor to a team of Federation diplomats negotiating a treaty on warp drive compatibility with the Klingon Empire, where he made contacts on both sides.
He currently serves as Science Officer on board the USS Athena, a brand new Intrepid-class ship on a deep-space survey mission. In his free time he enjoys Trillpa fencing and reading books on comparative legal theory. 4/5

For this exercise, we'll be using one of my old PCs, the Vulcan science officer Lt. Surin. Born as the child of two of Vulcan's most brilliant scientists, he joined Starfleet because, so he reasoned logically, it would be practically impossible to live up to his parents' enormous expectations by pursuing any normal scientific career. (His parents did not, it must be said, agree with this logic.) 2/5

#CharacterCreationChallenge Day 23-ish: ST:TNG RPG (LUG)
Yesterday we made four different characters in the same system. Today we're going to do the opposite, because somehow I've managed to acquire no less than three different #StarTrek RPGs over the years (or technically four if we count GURPS Prime Directive).
So we're going to (or at least try to) make the same character in each of those three systems and see what happens. First, the ST:TNG RPG from Last Unicorn! 1/5
